How to get +40/45 in IB?

Achieving 40+ points in IB can seem impossible but with hard work and a little bit of luck it is possible. Now, of course everyone is different and because of that it is good to select subjects that you are good at. Also, every school is different and I have realized your teacher affects your final results a lot. So there is some things you cannot affect but everyone has a possibility of achieving the higher grades.  1. My first and most obvious tip is to study and work consistently from the beginning. However, if you are already IB2 and have realized only now that you did not put enough work in during IB1, you still have a change. You just have to stop the procrastinating and start working. Focus on your weaknesses as there is no point in revising stuff you already know. However, before skipping a chapter make sure you actually know the stuff and you are not just skipping the "easy things" only to find out in the exams you actually don't remember. This happened to me wit...

How to survive in IB DP? tips for IB students

Here are some tips from m25 that I think would have helped me in the beginning of ib1.  1. Do your CAS as early as possible.  It is relatively easy and if you have experiences that you like, it shouldn't feel like too much work but if you leave too much to do to the end, it will be just extra stress you do not want. Writing the reflections can be annoying but as CAS is not graded you can sort of do the bare minimum with the reflections, just make sure with your CAS coordinator that everything is alright with your experiences and reflections so you don't find out right before finals that you have to fix something because you will have enough things to worry about in the end of IB2. Most importantly do your project early as it is the one that requires the most work. 2. Write EE/IAs during the summer but don't overwork. Unless you are behind in many things, it is very important to rest during the break, too. However, it is crucial to also get some things done. It is all about ...

The exact requirements vary between schools but you will have to write reflections regularly and meet certain learning outcomes to fulfill the CAS requirements. You are not graded for CAS but you have to pass it to graduate.  CAS project: This is a CAS experience that lasts over a month, requires planning and you have to do it together with another IB student. You have to complete one project during IB.  EE: extented esssay. You come up with your research question on your own so you can ch...

How to choose your IB subjects?

When starting IB, selecting your subjects can be difficult. Especially, if you are unsure what you want to study and want to keep options open. For example, I considered at one point studying biology or environmental sciences (as a back up option) and realised too late that I would have needed to take chemistry for those. So my first recommendation is to check entry requirements for fields that interest you, and see what seems to be required subjects for them in countries you are interested studying in. Secondly, you choose subjects you are interested in because these are the subjects you are most likely going to study after IB. Thirdly, choose subjects that are easy for you because it makes your IB journey easier and you are more likely to score high which can help you to get into unis. However, don't choose only subject that are considered "easy" because that can affect how universities view you.  Group 1&2 For non-native English speakers: If you are taking A lit i...

How to prepare for IB Literature paper 2 exam?

Language A exams are demanding but at least you don't have to memories so much. However, it is important to know enough about a few books you have chosen. Ideally, you have studied them so much in class that the information about them comes quite easily to your mind. But if you have read the book a year ago, it might be hard to recall everything, so here are some of my tips.  How many books you need to prepare for the exam? I decided to do three, which was a good number of books. You are going to have 4 options in the questions so it is unlikely that you couldn't find any match from three books unless your books are really weird and they won't fit basic questions e.g. there is no characters. I did two that went really well together and one as a back up. I also really liked all three of them so it made reading them feel like less work. I ended up using the back up as the other book but I could have used my main two in another question. I still think it is a little risky to g...

Tips for IB Literature paper 1

I have always got high 6 or 7 in my paper 1, so I thought I could share some tips. Btw, my A lang is not English and I know some things are different between languages especially when it comes to the structure of the essay. These tips likely go for lang lit too but I haven't taken it so can't say for sure. Reading time You have very little time to write you essay so you have to start working already during the reading time. I personally have hard time making any plan without being able to write so I prioritize just reading the text carefully and understanding it. But if yo can already start the plan in your head, then good. It is important to get the full picture of the text but also understand the details. If you don't understand every single detail, there is no need to panic because you don't have time to discuss everything anyway, so also long as you get the overall theme and some details and devices that you can write about, you are fine. Panicking overall is the wo...
